I use an eclectic approach & integrate a variety of tools in order to support the overall health of each individual I work with. Some of those include:
Biblical Counseling & Prayer: Clients who identify as Christian are often interested in integrating Bible passages & prayer into session. This may look like studying particular passages together in session, exploring the role of the Bible & it’s lessons in your life & getting to know what God says about you through scripture. Prayer is deeply personal for many people, a sacred practice where we have open dialogue with the God of everything. I do not take this time lightly, however prayer can be lighthearted. Getting to know your preferred style of prayer is a process that we can work on together in order to bring effective prayer into session. Prayer can also be used as a homework tool, self care or emotional regulation practice.
Brainspotting- Developed by David Grand, a licensed psychotherapist, as a brain-body strategy to treat everyone & anyone. David Grand has shared that this modality is effective for treating just about any mental health related issue. In my practice, I use brainspotting with people who experience anxiety, trauma issues, compassion fatigue, chronic overwhelm & strain in relationships. David Grand has famously said “where you look affects how you feel”. The modality uses targeted eye positions in order to bypass the “thinking” part of the brain and connect deeper to the emotional or body based experiences. Processing happens in a way that is unique to each individual and often allows for a deeper healing than cognitive based approaches.
Breath Work-In my practice I use breath work in a number of ways. Noticing your breath and how it relates to the way you show up gives us information to address in session. We can go deeper by controlling the breath and using it as a regulation tool. I often assign breath work as homework in order to practice self regulation.
Inner Child Work-Using an IFS (Internal Family Systems lens) we can look at all parts separately and together. By targeting the inner child and addressing that child’s lived experiences, beliefs and memories, we are able to set the child free to grow & develop.
Life Coaching-For individuals, families & couples who are either not in need of therapy or are already working with a therapist. We set specific goals, problem solve and address limitations in order to work toward living the fullest life possible.
Lifestyle & Healthy Living for Individuals & Families-Many of my clients have found they are living a life that does not align with their values, beliefs or faith. They have confirmed to “the ways of the world” or have fallen into convenience traps that inherently keep them stuck. We address the gaps and work together to develop new & healthy coping patterns.
Marriage & Family Counseling-Support for couples & families who are looking to address areas of tension or stress.
Nutrition & Integrative Medicine for Mental Health Disorders-Certification from Dr. Leslie Korn, the creator of the “Brainbow Blueprint.” I am able to assist you in connecting how your nutrition & lifestyle choices impact your body & mental health.
Parent Coaching-I am able to work with parents who do not need therapy or perhaps are already engaged in therapy with another provider. We address parenting conflicts & stressors by setting goals and working toward them one step at a time. You get personalized support & encouragement, problem solving strategies & place to tease out what may or may not be working with your current approach to parenting. We address burnout, importance of self compassion and self care as a caregiver in addition to strategies to improve co-parenting & parent-child relationships.
Polyvagal Theory- I integrate this beautiful somatic modality by supporting you in learning about your autonomic nervous system and how you show up in the world. Through information gathering you begin to connect to your nervous system and recognize that the symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma or stressors are signals from within. These signals are often crying out, telling a story or survival. We can use this information and understanding in order to connect deeper and begin to find safety within your own body & the world around you. Using your own resources & supports, we assist the body in finding safety, security and peace.
Skills Building-Almost everyone can use coping skills. Some of use are better at using our skills than others. Typically, we focus on building skills that will assist in lessening symptoms of personal conflict, anxiety or depressive symptoms or chronic stress.
Spirituality-Brought into sessions when clients feel safe & comfortable doing so. Understanding the work of your own spirit and is a powerful tool in gaining perspective around your position in the world. Connecting to God, the Creator of The Universe, can be deeply healing. We can work through spiritual trauma, “church hurt” or conflicts between the flesh & the spirit.
Somatic Practices-Body based resources & supports. Often focused on breath work, somatic resourcing & connecting to the nervous system. Somatic practices acknowledge that while the story held in your brain is important, it is not the only story. Your body is often telling a story through symptoms of worry, panic, depression, fatigue, stress, difficulty sleeping, digestive issues or chronic pain. We address the body as a way to empower your whole being.
Are you interested in a specific modality? Please share your questions & concerns. My goal is to empower you as an individual and walk with you on a path to healing & peace. If there is an aspect of therapy you are unsettled by or do not wish to have incorporated into sessions, that is OK! Not every approach or modality is right for everyone. I would love to get to know how I can support you on your journey to wholeness.
